چکیده

Abstract An imminent change in the world energy matrix makes it necessary to increase production of renewable fuels. The United States and Brazil are world's largest producers, but their methods very different, using different raw materials, ground corn sugarcane juice, respectively. In recent years, strong investments have been made expand use Brazilian ethanol production. combination sugar cane industries has generated innovations sector, such as "flex" mills, which traditional mills adapted produce off-season. a portfolio robust industrial yeasts for production, naturally evolved selected over past 50 years. this work, we analyze first time performance strains (BG-1, CAT-1, PE-2 SA-1, widely used production) stress conditions. Ethanol Red yeast, traditionally plants around world, was control. terms tolerance temperature (35 °C), BG-1 SA-1 stood out. fermentations with high solids concentration (35%), strain reached contents higher than 19% w/v had productivity gain 5.8% compared fermentation at 30%. This that these were evaluated 35% results point ways improve process. Graphical

A modified method for calculating practical ethanol yield at high lignocellulosic solids content and high ethanol titer.

A modified method for calculating practical ethanol yield in the simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) at high lignocellulosic solids content and high ethanol titer is proposed considering the liquid volume change caused by high titer ethanol generation and the water consumed during cellulose degradation. This modified method was applied to determine the practical ethanol yields ...

Continuous high-solids corn liquefaction and fermentation with stripping of ethanol.

Removal of ethanol from the fermentor during fermentation can increase productivity and reduce the costs for dewatering the product and coproduct. One approach is to recycle the fermentor contents through a stripping column, where a non-condensable gas removes ethanol to a condenser. Previous research showed that this approach is feasible. Savings of $0.03 per gallon were predicted at 34% corn ...

Study of the synergistic activity between industrial yeast strains resistant to high temperature and ethanol concentrations and high fermentative capacity to produce ethanol

Fuel-ethanol fermentation process includes a reutilization of the yeast biomass, in which yeast cells are exposed to stress conditions as high temperature and increasing alcohol concentration. This environment may cause a significant delay in fermentation and drop in cell viability. The Bioen program (UNESP) conducted a study to select highly producing yeast strains in a Brazilian distillery. T...

Rheological modification of corn stover biomass at high solids concentrations

Additives were tested for their ability to modify the rheology of lignocellulosic biomass. Additive types included water-soluble polymers (WSPs), surfactants, and fine particles. WSPs were the most effective rheological modifiers, reducing yield stresses of concentrated biomass by 60–80% for additive concentrations of 1–2 wt. % (based on mass of dry biomass solids). Yield stress and plastic vis...
